How can I possible think about saving money?
When you are raising a family on one income saving money is the last thing you are thinking of. It can be really important to have money saved for a rainy day or an emergency. As mentioned before “pay yourself first.” Every time you get paid take at least 5-10% of your pay and put it away. Then pay your bills and the rest leftover is what you live off of. This may seem impossible however it works and is possible. Try it and you will be surprised at the fact that you can live off of a little less than you are used to. Some other ways of saving money. 1) If you get child support try putting it in a seperate bank account and use it for things like a holiday or Christmas presents.2) If you receive any other money put it away in a separate account.3) Grocery shop once a week and always take a list.4) Shop around for a bank account with no fees. I use Presidents Choice Financial. Every time I pay my bills online or buy items from a certain store I get PC points. These accumulate fairly fast and you are able to use the points for things like groceries.5) Good old-fashioned coupon clipping or checking the weekly flyers.6) Buy things in bulk. I buy my groceries in bulk and divide it into meal size portions and freeze the rest.7) Buy energy efficient light bulbs. Shut off appliances and lights when you aren’t using them.8) Go pet free. I realize a pet can be part of the family however they cost a lot of money that could maybe be better spent somewhere else.9) Sell your kids! Just joking Talk to other people and ask how they save money. Just be creative!
