What happens if I meet a single dad?

When you are ready to start dating again you will be surprised at how many single dads there are. Dating someone who has kids has benefits as well as challenges.

If the man has full custody of his children there is the challenge and expense of finding two babysitters. Quite often the father doesn’t have custody, but if he does you need to be a little more cautious. I only say this because I know a few single dads and they are either very eager to find a “new mom” or are very hurt and have a hard time trusting females.

Then there is the issue of will your kids get along? You have to be sensitive to your children as well as your partners. You also have to be careful not to show favoritism. I suggest talking to the kids first before any introductions take place. You and your partner should also discuss how you parent in case any conflicts should arise.

It has been my experience that it is better to date a single father because they are more understanding. I have dated men who get jealous of how much time I spend with my daughter or get upset because I don’t have as much free time as them.

Regardless of whom you date make sure you have thought long and hard before you introduce your children to them. Children become easily attached so if it doesn’t work out it can be very upsetting to them.
